Student loan dealing with my lender or servicer trouble with how payments are handled November 14, 2016 - Chase private student loan went into default because Chase transferred servicing to third party company and I did not realize. Letters were sent to old address, Auto-pay did not transfer over and I did n't notice until my credit score took a large hit ( - to - ) from the default. Servicing company - took over the loan, which I confused with - ( another Chase servicing company ) with whom I already have federal loans. Everything was current with -, I thought nothing of it. At the time I was going through financial difficulties and did not pay. Because of that, my student loan went into default. I have since applied for a mortgage and was told this loan had to be resolved in order to go forward in the pre approval process.
