I have a private student loan with Chase which has since been managed by - but is still reported through Chase. I have never been late and in fact I have constantly paid more than the minimum payment so that my next payment is n't even due until another 2 or 3 years. I tried to release my cosigner and submitted all the necessary documentation. My request was denied and my concern is that they will not tell me why. All I was told is that I can try again in the future. I do n't know if my request was denied due to credit score, income level, length of loan history, or any other factor. I do n't think this is right because I do not know what steps I should correct to get my cosigner released. For example, if it 's credit score I can improve it and try again. But if it 's income level then that would be harder to correct in the short term and it would be a waste of my time now to keep trying and dinging my credit score. Is there any recourse? I 'm not asking for proprietary information, I 'm just wanting to know the reason why. I called multiple times and I was told they ca n't give me their credit thresholds because it 's proprietary. I do n't care about the exact number, all I need to know is that my score is below their minimum or my Debt to Income was above their maximum, something along those lines. Do student loan providers not have to give a reason at all for denying the release of a cosigner?
