Will I hear back from the FTC regarding my complaint?

Due to the volume of complaints, the FTC cannot respond directly to every complaint. The FTC and other law enforcement agencies analyze complaints to spot trends and to identify and take action against the people responsible for these illegal calls.

What's a Robocall?

If you answer the phone and hear a recorded message instead of a live person, it's a robocall. You've probably gotten robocalls about candidates running for office, or charities asking for donations. These robocalls are allowed. But if the recording is a sales message and you haven't given your written permission to get calls from the company on the other end, the call is illegal. In addition to the phone calls being illegal, their pitch most likely is a scam.

What Should You Do If You Get a Robocall?

If you get a robocall:

  • Hang up the phone. Don't press 1 to speak to a live operator and don't press any other number to get your number off the list. If you respond by pressing any number, it will probably just lead to more robocalls.
  • Consider contacting your phone provider and asking them to block the number, and whether they charge for that service. Remember that telemarketers change Caller ID information easily and often, so it might not be worth paying a fee to block a number that will change.
  • Report your experience to the FTC online at or by calling 1-888-382-1222.

March 4, 2017 - Consumer Collection Management has been removed from one credit report a few times, but it keeps coming back, after it gets investigated and then removed. They have also made slight changes each time they resubmit it to the 3 reporting bureaus. Each time we have asked for proof of the debt and all we have ever heard, is because we have a form?! Where is the proof? Without proof they get removed, but then they come right back....

November 12, 2016 - My husband had medical debts that the collection agency had put in my name even though I was not on the medical bill. My husbands only income was social security and I was working so that is why they put his debt under my name. I do not think this was fair. My credit report is affected and I have repeatedly asked them to take my husband 's bills off of my account and they have not done so. He has since passed away and they still have his debt on my account. I need help. I do not know where to turn....

July 15, 2016 - I had payment agreement with a medical provider to pay bill at $25.00 every other week which I started immediately. Provider then sent account to collection in spite of agreement and then stated they are no longer collecting the item.
