Checking account Problems caused by my funds being low Minnesota
About - years ago, I signed up for a reserve line of credit with my bank. At the time, the bank teller told me that I would no longer be charged for overdrafts if I connected my checking account to the reserve line. As a result, I believed I was protected from overdraft fees by the reserve line. Twice this month, my checking account has overdrawn, causing the reserve line to kick in and transfer me money to cover the transaction. Each time I was charged $12.00 - my bank statement labeled that charge as " overdraft protection fee. '' I called my bank to complain, and was told that the free was not an overdraft fee, it was a " transfer fee. '' Which is a fee for transferring money, which I do n't pay when I transfer money from the reserve line myself. At a minimum, the bank is misleading customers by implying that they will not be charged an overdraft fee, particularly because the fee is still labeled an overdraft fee on my account statement. While they may distinguish between these fees internally, they certainly are n't transparent about their policy. If they had told me " a reserve line will allow you to access reduced overdraft fees when you overdraw your account, '' that would have been open and transparent. And it would have altered my behavior, because I would not assume I was covered by a reserve line.
