I am trying to pay down my private student loans as quickly as possible. I take advantage of auto pay and set a higher amount to be deducted than what 's due each month so I can apply the extra payments toward the principal balance. However, after I set these amounts, - -/Navient continues to lower the monthly amount automatically deducted, without any notification. Every few months I have to call and make a request that the original amounts of my auto pay be reset. After many months of this pattern ( I have detailed notes going back to -/-/- ), it is clear to me that Navient is reducing the auto pay amount so that less is applied toward the principal balance, therefore extending my payment length and they ultimately earn more money off of my interest rate. The differences between the set auto pay amount and what Navient actually deducts differ greatly. For example : On -/-/2016 I requested that my monthly auto pay amount for - loan be $500.00. Now several months, Navient has the -/-/- monthly auto pay set to deduct only $380.00, a difference of over $100.00. This unauthorized change to the auto pay amount elongates my loan payment period from 1 yr, 1 mths to 1 yr, 5 mths. This is happening on all - of my private loans. Navient has not provided a sufficient explanation on why this amount keeps reducing. They are making it harder for me to pay off my student loans.
