My son has several student loans thru Navient ( formerly - - ) which I am a co-signer on several of his loans. I have paid on these loans for years b/c I always wanted to be able to pay for my kids education and in previous years he could n't afford to pay. We have been in a rate reduction plan the past couple of years with them and we have never missed a payment. This plan has to be approved each year. Since last year my sons salary has increased slightly by about $10000.00, but so has his expenses with a mortgage, car payment, and - child - - ). My payments were $520.00 per month. In renewing for this year Navient is asking him to pay $980.00 month. His income did not double, his family is larger, his wife 's hours have been reduced. And they will not come off this rate per month or try to work with us. I feel like they do n't want you to pay them back sometimes. We have always paid and I 'm trying to pay them now and they do n't care. Seems odd that it would be this difficult to make payment arrangements when more student loans are being defaulted on everyday, more than ever before. Wish I had other options. We are a struggling - family trying to do the right thing.
