Non-federal student loan Getting a loan can't qualify for a loan

Non-federal student loan Getting a loan Can't qualify for a loan District of Columbia

I went to SoFi web page to see what rates would be for a refinance of my student loans. The website is confusing and directed me to enter my name, address, zip code, phone number, DOB, citizenship, home ownership, school info, employment info and current student loan information. In hindsight outside requesting my social security number ( they did not and this was not provided ) this was an application for credit. Why must we fill out an application for credit to obtain rates for a refinance. When I hit enter on the web site or as they wrote " submit to see my rate '' I was declined. I then received a form letter ( digital ) stating " After carefully reviewing your application, we are sorry to advise you that we can not grant a loan to you at this time. If you would like a statement of specific reasons why your application was denied, please contact our SoFi - - - within 60 days of the date of this letter. We will provide you with the statement of reasons within 30 days after receiving

I phoned SoFi to figure out what was going on and explain I did not request credit from them, I only wanted rates. I was told that they pull a " soft '' inquiry on my credit and based on that I was declined. Ok .... It did not seem to me that I was granting them the ability to " soft '' check my credit or that I was applying for credit .... I just wanted rates. In my humble 15 years as a Consumer Underwriter and Manager for a - bank that must adhere to all the CFPB requirements, that this was a very deceitful tactics to create an application and render an unwanted credit decision, good or bad. The Website is very misleading and very upsetting to me as a consumer that to find rates I must first be run through a credit check? I understand rates change with credit scores, however they should be published for the viewing public?
