Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Received bad information about my loan New York
I cosigned, against my better judgment, on my fiancs private student loan. He has been making on time payments, so I decided to try and get myself released as the cosigner. We have a baby and live in an older house and was recently tested positive for lead. I was trying to get approved for a mortgage, but the lead test has increased my urgency to move. This private loan is adding to my " debit '' that I pay/owe when I apply for a mortgage. We downloaded the release form from the Navient website. It required the form be completed, paystubs or W2 's be sent along with proof of graduation. All of the required information was sent. The requirements included - consecutive on time payments of both the principle and interest. We waited a month and called the customer service line after not receiving any information. The rep told us we were denied based on not having - consecutive on time payments. I asked what months were we late, because neither myself or the borrower were aware of us being late. We were transferred to - reps and finally were told that we were late in - -
being a cosigner. I have an issue with this for - reasons. First it does not say on line or in their release paperwork that you only have to pay up to - days after the due date or you cant be released. It only says you have to make - consecutive on time payments. Those - months of payments were not late and they were on time. I feel that this is very misleading of them. Most companies have a 30 day grace period before something is considered late or before they add on late payments. My fianc took this loan out so that he could attend - -. He was never able to find a job in his field and none of his credits transfer to a - college or university. He basically paid a lot of money for nothing. If he wanted to get his bachelors he would have to start all over again even though he has this degree from -. Wasted time and money. And now this is hindering me being able to get a mortgage.
