Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Trouble with how payments are handled District of Columbia
Dear who may concern, I took a student loan from the city bank in -/-/-/-/-/- and paid the full amount to close the account in -/-/-. However, the City Bank made a number or errors that prevented me from closing my account at that time. First, City Bank did n't provide important information to me. For instance, I submitted payment in -/-/- to close the account. However, only in - -, Citi Bank contacted me and explained that this amount was not applied to the principal as instructed and to close the balance on - loan, but applied by Citi Bank as a payment of future payment instead. In addition, I did not receive any emails/notification of my remaining balance form their company until - -. Second, I submitted payment of the remaining balance in - - to close the - loan. Apparently, the payment did n't go through as anticipated, possible because - Bank agent at the time mis-entered the account information. And there was no additional follow up from Citi Bank after this problem
In fact, when I found the payment was not deducted from my bank account balance, I called Citi Bank and asked for the reason. However, the agent could n't find my account information and asked me to send a fax so that they can search for my account. It is unclear why Citi Bank could not find my information : perhaps because Citi Bank agent assigned me a random number as my social security number. Regardless, after sending in that information, I received no additional response from City Bank. After numerous phone calls to Citi Bank in the past, I was left feeling very frustrated as no one was able to provide me with adequate resolution to my queries. Therefore, I requested the City Bank to re-appy/re-calculate my balance due with the attached letter that I sent to City Bank on - -, -. If the payment had gone through in - - as I 'd sent it, I should have pay a total of $5200.00. Therefore, that 's the amount I asked them to re-adjust and my intention is to pay the full amount and close down the account. However, instead of resolving this issue, City Bank kept calling me to request for a payment of larger amount. Also, they disagree with re-calculating my balance, without providing understandable explanations. I tried to have a follow up phone conversations with City Bank on - -, -, but the person who is in charge of was defensive, not properly communicating and intentionally disconnected the call.
