Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Trouble with how payments are handled Massachusetts
I feel - - ( Navient ) used deceptive practices while financing my degree. There was - debt counseling as I applied for my first loan - the first day of my move in, I was pulled out of line at school and brought to the financial aid office and asked how I would pay for school ( 2003 ). Just turning -, I asked them what do I do - the advisor instructed me to sit me down in a cubicle and dialed - - for me. Within a short time period, I had been approved for $ -, after never holding a loan in my life. This became the norm each year which lead to $ - in private student loans. Have tried multiple times to work with the lender for additional repayment options to no avail. I have currently paid $ - towards these loans and the principle on the loans have only move by $3000.00 ( from $100000.00 to $100000.00. Roughly 8 years repaying and average payment of $700.00 a month ). Multiple times I have called for assistance with the repayment and was pushed to a deference ( with capitalized interest ). I feel the company should work with high balance customers like myself to come to terms/agreements that work in both favors ( reduction in interest rate, fixed rate ). After research into this subject, it seems the only way to negotiate is through none payment and eventual default ( leading to ruined credit scores and potential loss for the lending company ). After paying more than $40000.00 towards my loan, I should see a drastic decrease in overall principle. I believe I have experienced predatory lending practices in addition to deceptive allocation of payments and repayment recommendations from the company.
