I incurred overdraft fees amounting to $300.00 for - online purchases totaling $370.00. The result was an overdraft of $690.00. The overdraft fee is 82 % of the total overdraft! I contacted the bank to ask whether the charges could be reversed and they said 'no ' because they had reversed - charges already and I was at the limit for " courtesy reversal. '' I admit that I should not have overdrawn the account. However, considering that the average purchase amount was for - charges was $27.00, it seems to me that the bank is gouging their customers. Instead of not permitting the charges to go through, which would ultimately benefit the customer, they allow the charges so that they can collect fees that are in some cases - times the amount of the purchase price. This is unconscionable.
