I received an email from Discover stating " We 're writing to let you know that your - Pay purchase on - -, 2015 for $1200.00 at - - included a gift card. The gift card portion of your purchase does not qualify for the - % Cashback Bonus ( R ) promotion... if you disagree with our finding and contend that your purchase did not include a gift card or a portion of your purchase qualifies per the terms of the promotion, let us know with supporting documentation in the next 21 days. Documentation can include store receipts or invoices, but can not include your Discover card statement. '' My purchase did not contain a gift card, and no one where did Discover 's Terms and Conditions disclose Discover would ask for documentation of what was purchased. This puts an unnecessary and unreasonable burden on me as a consumer to provide proof against an accusation Discover is making while having zero grounds for making said accusation. What would happen if I did not keep my receipts from more than 3 weeks ago? Should I be keeping my receipts for all of my purchases made with my Discover card? It would be nice to know beforehand and not after the fact. To summarize, Discover is not abiding by their Terms and Conditions by making unfounded accusation and placing the unjustified burden on the consumer. I 'm extremely disappointed with Discover 's lack of integrity and transparency. I have a strong relationship with, and have never encountered such issues with -, -, - -, or - - -.
