Checking account Problems caused by my funds being low Maryland

I have not opted-in to overdraft protection wherein my bank ( BB & T ) will advance funds on my behalf, should my account balance fall below zero. For years, my savings account has been linked to my checking account for an alternative to overdraft protection, however. Recently, I noticed that I was being charged a $12.00 Miscellaneous Debit '' for BB & T to transfer my own money from my savings account to my checking account upon a low balance. This Miscellaneous Debit '' is charged per transfer, very similarly to an Overdraft Fee - just not $35.00 -.
