My father in law passed away unexpectedly and had a home equity loan from Sovereign Bank. There was a - dollar balance on the account when he passed away and we paid the balance, even though he had mortgage insurance. We sold the house and were told that we would have to pay a - dollar penalty because we closed the home equity line early, even though he had died the bank stated that these are the rules ''. A complaint was filed with Sovereign - years ago with no resolution.
