I have outstanding debt to Discover Card in the amount of $4000.00. I am elderly and I recently lost my life partner of 25 years, and - daughters. - of my daughters left me to care for my special needs granddaughter ; and the other daughter had serious financial debt, which all became my sole responsibility. I am willing to pay my debt ; however, I feel I am being unfairly treated by Discover and harassed by collection phone calls. I feel Discover has discriminated against me due to my age because I am elderly and on a fixed income and receive public assistance, and although I am willing to pay my debts, they will not work with me to establish a reasonable payment plan for my current income. Further, they know I have no immediate family to help me understand my liabilities and the Discover calls have been confusing and misleading me and purposely trying to get me to verbally agree to something I can not fulfill for a monthly payment. I also feel that Discover treated me unfairly because they have been harassing me with collections calls, even though I have opted out of phone calls. Because of the harassing calls from Discover, I felt pressured into finding a financial solution. As a result, I was scammed by a debt consolidation company, leaving me further destitute. I reported to Discover that I was the victim of a credit consolidation scam by a company called - -. They led me to believe they were debt consolidators, not debt negotiators. They promised to pay my creditors off in 3.5 years, but all they did was take my money and left me with nothing. All Discover has done was continue to harass me by phone causing additional anxiety and stress to me.
