All the major credit reporting agencies, Transunion, - and - -, " rate shopping does n't always affect your credit score in the case of rate shopping for an auto loan, if shopping was done within a 14-45 day period of time ''. Then turn right around and use that rate shopping as a " credit factor '' on your report. Example : with Transunion they show my shopping with ( 3 ) different companies, all on the same date, as a " credit factor '' on my report, - shows ( 2 ) of those same ( 3 ) as a " credit factor '' while - shows again all ( 3 ). They then " lower '' your credit score and even show this as a factor calling ALL the above a " credit factor '' because they are " hard inquiries ''! I believe the reason for their having done this is because they ALL want you to apply with ONLY their preferred lending companies which they list within their sites. They even " direct '' your search to those companies as a " way '' for you lower the impact on your report by consolidation of debt with THEIR chosen companies. I would suggest that personally you try it yourself, using your own credit information by going to - as an example, because they use reports from both - and Transunion. I called, and complained to a Transunion representative who told me, " that 's just the way its done ''! The public who works hard, and relies on having fair credit reporting is being punished for having rate shopping, which should be the privilege of all of us!
