In - of 2016 Citibank was offering a promotion for opening a new checking account and funding that account with $15000.00 or more within 30 days of account opening. The promotion offered a $400.00 bonus. On - - I applied over the phone for a qualifying Citibank checking account ; there are no local branches where I could apply in person. On - - I was told that the account would be reviewed and that paperwork would need to be completed prior to the account being opened. I received the paperwork via mail and returned it. On - - I called Citibank to inquire about status of my account and was told that the paperwork had been received and processed and the account open date was - -. I asked if the promotion would be in jeopardy given that 20 days had elapsed since my application
After the waiting period expired I contacted Citibank to check on status of the $400.00 bonus and was told that I was not eligible. Citibank was now using the - - application date instead of the - - account creation date as the start date for the promotional period. The primary issue at hand was that prior to - - there was no account number provided to me that would allow me to transfer funds. I called Citibank a number of times and escalated my concerns to their supervisory team but after two formal reviews, including one where Citibank acknowledged the - - account creation date, they did not consent to honor the bonus offer.
