I opened a checking account at Bank of the West in -/-/2016 and requested to close the account on -/-/2016. Bank representatives rejected my request because they claimed I opened a " line of credit '' on the account which I never did. Meanwhile, they stated I have used the line of credit and owe money on the line which is a surprise to me because I have never requested nor used any line of credit. I only withdrew my initial balance out of the account to close the account. The local branch representatives could not give me an explanation for why this line of credit was opened and why it says I used some of it. In the meantime, the account is also accumulating monthly fees because I have a zero balance and they wo n't close the account to investigate this error. I am being harassed with bank letters notifying me they will contact collections to collect the outstanding fees on the account. What this financial institution is fraud and reminds me of - fraudulently opening accounts on their customers behalf without them knowing, and charging them fees in the interim. This is a bad surprise that I hope to resolve and prevent to happen to others. Please help!
