Identity theft / Fraud / Embezzlement

Citibank Credit card department,

Identity theft / Fraud / Embezzlement Pennsylvania

- - - Multiple unauthorized/fraudulent charges were placed on my Citi Best Buy Visa card ( ending in - ). The largest was for $500.00 at - - # -, reference number -. - - - I received a text message from Citi inquiring about the $500.00 charge from - -. I immediately called customer service and was informed of this as well as - other unauthorized charges ; I indicated that these were unauthorized/fraudulent charges. I was assured at this time that I would not be held responsible for the charges and that my account would be closed and - with a new account number opened. I indicated that I just wanted them to close my account permanently. - - - I logged into my account online and saw that not only had a new account ( ending in - ) been opened in my name, but a $500.00 balance had been placed onto it as a transfer from the original account ( ending in - ). I

- - - I called customer service and was transferred to the fraud department. I explained the situation once again, reiterated that I wanted the account closed, and further reiterated that I wanted this balance removed from my account. The representative indicated that she 'd transfer the balance back to the old account, where it would stay while the amount was under dispute. The resolution could take 60-90 days on their end and possibly longer on the merchant 's end. I said I found this unacceptable but asked if my account was at risk of being placed into collections. I was told " I do n't think so. '' This is completely unacceptable. - - - I again spoke with Citi customer service, the agent of which spoke with the fraud department. I was told that the process was n't properly explained and that the $500.00 balance was in the process of being removed from my card. - - - I logged into my account online and saw that the $500.00 balance had been transferred from the new card ( ending in - ) to the old card ( ending in - ). The end result being that I still have a $500.00 unauthorized/fraudulent charge sitting on an account associated with my name. This is even more frustrating because - other unauthorized charges which apparently occurred at the same time have already been removed from my account. Even worse, the old account now has a payment due of $25.00. All throughout the process I was assured I would n't have to pay on the amount in dispute, yet here they are trying to bill me for it.
