Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Trouble with how payments are handled California
By - -, 2016, I wanted to pay my student loan in full. I went on the loan company 's website and logged into my account to establish my payoff amount and find a date when I could get a cashier 's check to mail to the loan company. I called the company and talked with a customer service representative. I discussed with the representative about sending the check overnight an the rep. said I could send the check through the mail and the company would date the payoff to the postmarked date. She gave me an address for where paid-in-full payments are received. It was American Education Services Paid In Full, - - -, -, PA -. The payoff amount on - -, 2016 was $18000.00. I purchased a cashier 's check on - -, 2016 in the amount of $18000.00 and mailed the check on - -, 2016, to the above address certified mail with a return receipt requested. The company did not use the postmark date but used the arrival date instead. The company applied the check to the loan but the did not use the postmark as the date for the payoff amount of the loans. The loan company says I have a $14.00 balance on my loan. I emailed AES to resolve this discrepancy on the payoff date. In the past, although I had tried to get my name corrected on this loan, AES refused to change it. ( They read my handwritten name incorrectly. ) I continued to make the payments on the bills with the incorrect name. This loan has not shown on my credit reports.
