At - I received a call from a woman at Simon 's Agency Inc. based in -, NY. She did not provide her name and said that the debt they were attempting to collect was for a doctor 's bill. When I pressed her for information on who was claiming the debt, she would not give it to me. I asked for a copy of the bill and she said she was not allowed to provide it. I asked her for contact information for the person claiming the debt and she would not provide it. When I got upset and questioned the legitimacy of her claim, she told me that if I did not change my attitude she would report it to the credit rating agencies. I called the hospital and - billing services that the hospital recommended - all said my bills were paid. I called back to Simon 's Agency and the gentlemen who answered the call, who also did not identify himself, said he could not provide any other information to me and said I should call my insurance company. He said that they would know who the debt was owed to. When I explained that I had a right to know who was claiming the debt, he said " seems like you are afraid to call your insurance company. ''
