- co-branded airline credit cards ( - - - - -, Citi - - - - - - and - - - - - Visa ) offer free baggage checking to the primary card holder and accompanying passengers. But this benefit does not apply to non-primary cardholders flying alone, though they do possess their own co-branded card with their own name and a linked account number. On at least 2 occasions, my spouse, when traveling alone, was denied free baggage checking, even though she had the appropriate co-branded airline card. this is blatant discrimination against the 'little woman traveling without hubby '. These credit cards issued to by the non-primary cardholder are valid for any purchase around the world but can not be used for the benefit of free baggage checking when the non-primary card holder travels alone on the appropriate airlines. The fees for baggage checking seem to start at $25.00 or more for each trip and would be even more with minor children traveling often with a woman not accompanied by her husband. I think all such fees should be disallowed and refunded to all spousal passengers who have had to pay for what would have been free if 'hubby ' had also been traveling. I blame both the financial institutions issuing the credit cards and the airlines for coming up with these restrictions. The fact that these restrictions are vaguely mentioned ( " all passengers traveling with you '' ) in the information sent with the credit cards does not make it fair or reasonable. Thank you for your attention to this matter. And I hope the CFPB manages to survive intact despite the desires of those who are so offended by a government agency protecting citizens who are victimized in financial matters.
