Closing/Cancelling account North Carolina

In -/-/- my husband and I opened up a Discover credit card..we were never late until our infant daughter passed and we had many unexpected bills to come up. This account got a few months behind and was charged off. However in -/-/- the account was paid less then full but $400.00 ( we owed I think - ). However, DISCOVER are STILL REPORTING IT as past due/late EVERYMONTH even though the amount was " settled for less then amount ''. They have really jacked my credit up for YEARS NOW and we had NO CLUE until recently when trying to refi our house we were told about it! I could not believe this! I do have a letter stating where it was paid in exchange for the lesser amount! I also have the offer letter then sent me as well BUT THEY ARE ILLEGALLY REPORTING STILL that its still " late '' every single month and have done so since -/-/-!!! FOR 6 YEARS!!!
