I was not aware when I first entered repayment. Because of this, I fell behind in my payments. The monthly payments ( without the late fees ) were already impossible to make without assistance ( approximately $ -/month ). When I spoke to Citi, they told me " ask your cosigner ''. I informed them that my cosigner 's financial situation had changed and could not help me. I asked if there was a way to change my monthly payments or to return my late payments to the principle so I could try to make my payments. Every time I was told no, there were no options for me. When they asked why I was behind, I explained that I already was struggling to make the basic payments and they responded by offering that I could do a payment plan where I pay more each month until I caught up. I explained every time that I work - hours a week and only take home $250.00 a week. During these hours, I can not answer my phone, but they never would leave messages so I had no way of knowing who was calling or what was happening. Every time this
these problems, they referred the debt to a collection group, but did not sell the debt. I spoke to the collection group and was told I had to either pay $21000.00, lump sum, or monthly payments of $720.00. I tried again to call Citi to try to come up with a repayment plan with them. The loan was still in their possession but they would not discuss the loan with me and kept directing me to call the collection group, telling me that the debt had been charged off. I asked the representative directly if Citi still owned the debt or if they had sold it to the collection group. I was told yes, Citi still owned the debt and that the collection group was only collecting for them, but Citi still refused to speak to me about the debt.
