Improper use of my credit report Received marketing offer after opted out California
I signed up for credit reporting with Experian not understanding that I would be charged a monthly $20.00 fee for the credit report. The month after I signed up, I called my bank and disputed the charge to my credit card. They explained to me that this was a common complaint, and Experian was difficult to work with and ultimately resolve the $ -/month charge. They recommended that I cancel my credit card and avoid working with Experian in the future. I did this. The following month, under my new credit card, the charge appeared again. I had not contacted Experian with my new credit card number. Therefore, Experian used my social security number to locate my personal information and charge me for a service that I did not want. I called Experian and complained that they misused my personal identifiable information and requested the resting the charge on my credit card. They refused and said the charge was legitimate. I demanded to speak to the Experian representative 's supervisor to resolve the issue and I was turned down. I am deeply disturbed, not for the monthly charge on my credit card, but because my PII was used inappropriately. I am lucky because I monitor my credit card charges closely. I 'm sure there are many Americans who are unable to keep close watch on their financial information and in a similar situation, would miss the charge in their credit card.
