Medical Disclosure verification of debt not given enough info to verify debt

Medical Disclosure verification of debt Not given enough info to verify debt Indiana
I received a notice from a debt collector and within their time frame, I mailed them a certified letter asking for copies of bills and payments on this account. ( I think the amount they show I owed is incorrect. I also had been making monthly payments on this account and had telephone conversations with this provider that assured me that if I made payments it would not be turned over to collections ). The collection company then sent me an original copy of said hospital bill after insurance paid that does not show any payments that I made on this account. I sent them another certified letter explaining that I did not dispute this bill, I dispute the balance owed. I also want an explanation as to why it was turned over to collection. I had not heard back from them until today when I got another notice in the mail from them stating that unless they hear from me, collection efforts will continue. Send payment in full today! Do I not have a right to this information that I requested? When I made my payment to - online they never showed me a balance. Yet the next monthly bill would come showing an overdue balance of nearly $300.00??? My monthly statements also did not show previous payments made. I just want written documentation showing ALL bills on this account and ALL payments received. Why can I not get this information?
