Citibank Credit card department,
I purchased a gift card to - - - through - and the purchase came up as a cash advance with my card issuer, Citi. I called Citi to let them know what the purchase was for and how the purchase of a gift card to a specific merchant does not qualify as a cash advance under not only their listing of what a cash advance is, but also any general definition i could find online. They continued to read a script throughout the discussion and never took into account the fact that maybe they rang up the transaction incorrectly. Since this was a purchase made via -, i had a representative from - on the line who informed me the transaction was listed on their end as a goods and services transaction. Because of the mixup on Citi 's end, i was charged $12.00 in fees and missed out on $4.00 in rewards, given the 2 % rewards on my card.
