MEFA Student loan department,
Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Don't agree with fees charged Massachusetts
- took $6000.00 from my bank account last week. The first withdrawal was under my consent. The additional - withdrawals were not. I have had some issues with this company in the past, but over the years they have accommodated my need for an adjusted payment so I was n't overly dissatisfied ... until now. Part of my adjusted payment plan meant I was required to sign up for - - which is an electronic direct withdrawal from my bank account monthly for the AGREED upon amount. When I have extra cash from a tax return or bonus I will add this to the payment. About a week ago I decided after getting a hefty bonus payment that I was going to make a large lump sum payment to one of my loans.
In all, - made - $6000.00 withdrawals in two days from my account, a total of $18000.00 dollars of which only - installment was returned leaving me - $12000.00 and unable to pay my bills on time. I spoke with - at - yesterday who informed me the 'refund ' process takes 30 days and my best bet is to speak with my bank. - took money from my bank account without my permission. Having my bank information for PREVIOUSLY AGREED UPON monthly charges does not permit you to take large sums of money from my bank account. I will be calling the company again on Monday and requesting a more timely resolution to this issue, if not I will be seeking legal counsel and seeking damages for the other accounts that I can not payoff while this issue is being resolved. My bank account is now negative thousands of dollars and I can not pay my rent, buy groceries and will be late on and charged fees for a number of other loan and utility accounts. Furthermore, I am being additionally charged for everyday it is negative. Which will be until the payment is refunded.
