I went to - -. I took out federal loans. When I got out of school consolidated the federal loans. I kept getting a bill from Sallie Mae. I called them and asked them why and they told me the bill was for my private loans. I never signed any agreement for private loans. I refused to pay on them. They kept telling me they had a truth in lending agreement for the private loans but never produced one. It was - loans in all. The only thing I signed was an application for the federal loans. I was told by a lawyer that these private loans are not legal without a contract. At one point a Sallie Mae collector told me that it was a verbal agreement that the private loans were taken out on. I can not afford a lawyer to get rid of these loans and they are keeping my credit down.
