AES/PHEAA Student loan department,

Non-federal student loan Can't repay my loan Can't decrease my monthly payments Michigan

I have been repaying on my private student loans for the last 6 years and when economic hardship fell upon my family, I had defaulted on - my smaller loans. The loan did get paid off but this has effected my credit score as well as my parents and when trying to talk with representatives from the private loan institutions no one is willing to talk or help take care of any of issues or terms of repayment to ease the monthly financial burden. There are no options and the debt burden on myself as well as my parents who are cosigners is effecting everything in our lives. When asked if the terms could be changed or allowed for my cosigner parents to be released from my loans after so many consecutive on time payments, the idea was completly dismissed. Its so frustrating and upsetting that there is no relief or willingness to help elevate the burden that so many people are facing with student loan debt. How are you to repay your loans when the whole system is set up for you to most likely fail, the uncertainties of life can not be managed and accounted always and its unfair for students trying to better their lives and living situations to be stifled so much from being able to live. It 's no longer just that individual persons problem it is a problem that is effecting many aspects of families as well as the economic growth of a generation that ca n't truly establish themselves.
