I attempted to pay off my loan on -/-/2016. I received an email -/-/2016 that the bank was unable to find the account and my payment had not been processed. I called American Education Services to resolve the issue on -/-/2016. I was told although i had been paying for my loan for years with - account, they had tried to charge an old bank account and that was why it did not process. After being on hold for thirty five minutes, I was told there was nothing they could do I would just have to wait for their system to clear the incorrect payment. I was told this could take a couple of days which at this point would add ten days of interest. The representative said it was " only a dollar or so and it was not that big of a deal. '' I think it is wrong that I paid the loan off on -/-/16 and can still be charged over a week of interest for a systematic error on their behalf. Putting the bank error aside, I tried to pay the loan off today over the phone and AES would not take my payment. I do not understand how i could be charged additional interest following today 's date because I tried to make the payment today and they would n't take it. Yes it may only be another - cents, but this is completely unethical. I refuse to believe it is lawful for them to refuse a payment and then charge me interest until they feel like taking my payment? Please help me.
