The alleged debt that Portfolio Recovery Associates listed on my credit report as a collections account falls under the Settlement between Portfolio Recovery Associates and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau from - -, 2015. Per the settlement Portfolio Recovery Associates engaged in a pattern of " Without verifying the debts, the companies collected payments by pressuring consumers with false statements. '' This settlement applies to my circumstances because Portfolio Recovery Associates solicited payment on the debt with false statements from their representatives. In addition, Portfolio Recovery Associates, added a collections account to my credit report AFTER complaining to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau regarding their deceptive debt collection practices. In retaliation, Portfolio Recovery Associates added a collections account to my credit report without verifying the account. In addition, I was explicitly told that a lawsuit was pending if I did n't pay the debt immediately which was a lie. Furthermore, Portfolio Recovery Associates misled me by consenting to receive auto-dialed cell phone calls.
