Wells Fargo is constantly trying to add additional products and features to my account. I have a checking and credit card with WF ; they asked if I wanted to link the - in the event of an overdraft the credit card would serve as my overdraft protection. They sold it as, do n't ever get denied at POS and do n't worry about paying returned check fees. Money transferred to the checking account to cover a transaction is done as a cash advance and paid at a higher interest rate. The credit card allows for a cash advance feature, which is just borrowing funds at the higher rate, but no charge. When money is advanced from the credit card with the overdraft protection feature, it is done so with a considerable fee. I think the fee is a way of WF layering fees and costs because they can. Obviously this is n't requiring anything more than electronically transferring of funds, which is a option without fees. Again, I can transfer money or take a cash advance at no charge, but due to an overdraft ( where I am obviously short funds ) I am being taxed by the fee and the additional higher interest rate. I think that if WF offers the Protection '' they should be limited to collecting the higher interest on a cash advance and not be able to charge a fee.
