Non-federal student loan Dealing with my lender or servicer Trouble with how payments are handled Wisconsin
I am having serious concerns regarding a student loan I have through American Education Services. Loan information is as follows : Disbursement date:10/28/2004. Loan Program : -Current Balance : $13000.00. Original Balance : $16000.00. Interest Rate : 5.130 % I have been in repayment for over 10 years and have paid $15000.00 since I began repayment and my balance has barely lowered. According to the standard repayment plan it should be completely paid off by now. Even more concerning is the repayment schedule seems to be moving backwards. Every month the principle portion lowers while the interest portion gets higher, the exact opposite of what one would expect to happen over the life of the loan. I have never missed a single payment and only had - payment in the 10+ years of repayment which was late, by about ten days. To compound the frustration AES will not respond to my inquiries. I would appreciate any assistance you can provide to help me determine what is going on with this loan. I have the wherewithal to pay the loan off entirely, however I am reluctant to do so until I get to the bottom of why it appears that I 've paid far more interest than expected. I thank you in advance for your helpSincerely- -
