Hello team, I would need your help removing a credit inquiry done by Citi on my - report without my consent. On - -, I had requested for a credit limit increase in Citi website and I clearly remember it DID NOT mention anything about pulling a credit report. As soon as I entered my annual income details with expected credit limit and submitted the initial form, I just got a message that decision will be mailed to me later. The next day, on - -, I received an E-letter in my Citi account as : We ca n't approve your request because you currently have the maximum amount of credit we allow without your consent to obtain and review your updated credit report '' This clearly indicated that it needs my consent further to get the credit limit increase along with a credit report pull. Since I did n't want a hard inquiry, I did n't take any action. But Citi sent me another E-letter on - - as :


In any of the requests which I submitted, I NEVER gave my consent to have a hard inquiry on my credit report. Even the letters which they sent me just mentions about not able to approve the increase because of the income. However I noticed a HARD INQUIRY on my - report from Citi on - -. It is very clear that, I DIDNT GIVE MY CONSENT for this hard inquiry. I brought this to attention of Citi customer service immediately and have been following up with them from - - week, but without any successful outcome. Even after contacting them over call, fax, and over website several times, they are reluctant to agree that inquiry was done by mistake. I have requested for credit limit increases in the past ( I just had requested one for the same card in - 2014 ) with a hard inquiry and am aware of how the prompts for hard inquiries will be. Further, it does n't make sense that they declined my request ONLY BECAUSE my current limit was already maxed for my annual income, which did n't need the credit report at all. I would like to escalate this now. Since it is done in error from Citi, I would expect their credit department to get it removed from my credit report.
