Wells Fargo Bank account or service department,

Other bank product/service Using a debit or ATM card Pennsylvania

My --year-old daughter 's debit card was used fraudulently beginning on - -, 2015. While the bank - Wells Fargo - stopped all subsequent debit card charges that day to taxis, additional subsequent fraudulent charges were permitted by Wells Fargo to a number of fast food outlets and discount grocery stores. As soon as the funds on the debit card were depleted, Wells Fargo withdrew a total of $270.00 and - $12.00 overdraft fines from my daughter 's savings account. The fraudulent charges at locations ( - and - ) and businesses ( fast food chains and discount grocery stores ) were inconsistent with my daughter 's spending patterns. We live in -. I became aware of the fraudulent charges on - - when I uploaded transactions on -, discovered the fraudulent charges and contacted Wells Fargo to shut down the card. Wells Fargo promptly refunded the full amount of fraudulent charges and bank fees. However, my specific complaint is that the bank 's fraud detection system identified and stopped fraudulent charges on - - but even two days later the bank neglected to : ( 1 ) alert my daughter that her card was being used fraudulently ; (

I wished to file with government regulatory agencies, which again seems highly unprofessional and inconsistent with the intent of federal consumer protection law. Failure to notify us and also to stop fraudulent charges after an initial instance of fraud is well below the standard of practice for credit card companies. I believe that fraud prevention systems and practices should be even more responsive for debit cards given that the funds are immediately withdrawn from accounts. I am submitting this complaint because I believe Wells Fargo has an obligation to improve its fraud detection systems and staffing so that consumers receive same-day notice of suspect debit card fraud. Additionally, I believe that all banks ( not just Wells Fargo ) should be obligated to provide ( upon request ) accurate and timely information about government agencies established for consumer protection and to receive consumer complaints.
