Greetings - I have been attempting to clear an item on my credit report that was reported by Citicard. It took me 3 weeks and - phone calls to Citicard to research this item that was not recognizable to me. Citicard repeatedly told me they did not have any information on my account and to call back later. I continued to call Citicard back repeatedly and continued to receive the same statement. Finally, on the - call, I pushed to speak to someone else and was finally turned over to Citicard 's Internal Recovery Dept. At this point, I did not have the time or energy to purse this charge as a fraud as I am in the midst of applying for a mortgage loan. I told the Citicard associate that I just want to pay off the debt ( the outstanding balance was minimal, $260.00 ) so that I could close this issue. '' She told me could pay over the phone, then call back in 15 days to get a zero balance letter. I said I needed the letter


bank and called back 4 days later. I was then told that I could not get a Zero Balance Letter until 15 days had passed from payment. I stated this was NOT what I was told by the Citicard associate who accepted my payment. I clearly and specifically asked the associate who took my payment if I could call back once the payment had cleared and get the letter, and she said yes. This morning, I spoke to - associates who refused to send me a letter. The - Citicard associate admitted ( - was her name ) I was given erroneous information by the Citicard associate when I made my payment. During each phone call ( - in all ) Citicard attempted to collect personal data from me ; phone number, email, place of employement, etc.. I refused each time. But Citicard continued to request that I update their information on file. Please note - I am not entirely sure this was a valid charge on my credit report. However, given the low amount outstanding and my need to move on w/ my mortgage application, I chose to pay off the debt. Had I not been under a time constraint, I would have fought this charge.
