Citibank Credit Card Complaint

Payoff process

Payoff process California

I opened a credit card with Sears to try to improve my credit score. - of the only hits to my credit score is that I have very few accounts, and I had a good opportunity and thought Sears was a reputable enough company. I purchased a bed and a few accessories as I 'd just moved to - and that 's the point at which I was asked to open the account. The address I gave them was my new - address, but when verifying my driver 's license they claim to have put the old - address from my license into their system, so the credit card never arrived. I got a text message from Sears saying that I had a late payment. So I called them and told them I never received a card, and I need a card number in order to pay the balance. They allowed me to give them bank account information over the phone

Because it had no balance and because I did n't have the card to physically use, I did n't think much of it, but I still never received the credit card and to this day never have. But after my car was broken into and documents that could be used to steal my identity were taken from it I was advised to monitor my credit score closely for accounts attempted to be opened under my name and information. It was at this time I noticed I had grossly overdue payments on the Sears card. I called Sears to find out how I could have missing payments with a balance of - and was informed that when I gave them my information and said I wanted the whole balance paid that a small dollar amount, I believe between - and - - dollars, was left on the account. I never said a number, only that I wanted the whole balance paid, so there is no reason they should have left any balance on there. The payments were very long overdue, and I was never contacted about any of it at any time, but my credit score has been damaged severely by this. Prior to this incident my payment history and timeliness was perfect, and I would have no reason to leave such a small balance and let it go unpaid for so long. I 've been advised to pursue a resolution and a repair to my credit score through the Consumer Protection Bureau first, and if that does n't fix the problem I understand that there are further legal options. I will also never do business with Sears again if this is not corrected. I do not have any documentation other than what 's on my credit report because Sears never sent me anything at all, but I 'm told that they are legally required to keep the documents that will prove what I 'm saying. The representative I talked to on the phone apologized and let me close my account but said nothing else could be done. Legal action has not been filed at this time, but will be if the issue is not resolved and my credit is n't restored.
