I was interested in a car insurance service but was surprised when their quote said I was getting a higher rate because my credit score from Transunion was -. I generally have a very high credit score. I clicked over to Transunion 's website to check my credit score and discovered it was actually -. As part of this process I was taken through a very non-transparent process wherein they made me a " member '' with a $9.00 monthly fee despite no mention in the sign-up process that there would be a charge ( I discovered later that in the fine print of the terms and conditions I checked there was a stipulation that I would become a member and be charged a fee, but the actual fee was not detailed and never was it shown on the actual web portal, only buried in 12 pages of terms and conditions ). I then had to cancel and get refund from them. It was exactly the sort of behavior that is described in these articles that I discovered later : - ---, - I think 1 ) they are selling a different score on their website than the one they are providing to the insurance company and 2 ) they are fraudulently getting people to sign up for memberships when all they want is their free credit report and in the process charging $9.00 monthly for a service no one wants. It is shocking that it is continuing to go on especially since they so recently settled over the same issues. Please look into this further and protect consumers. I called them and insisted on a refund but many consumers would be less shrewd and more vulnerable.
