Wells Fargo & Company Credit card department,
In - of 2016 I added a charge of approximately $600.00 to my Wells Fargo - - credit card. This amount qualified for a 0 % finance charge if paid within 6 months. In - we called the company to ask how we could be sure the new charge would be paid in full since the increased minimum payment amount would not fully pay off the promotional balance. The representative we spoke to in - said that anything over the minimum amount due that we paid would be applied to the promotional balance. For our - and - payment we paid over $200.00 more ( combined ) than the minimum due. None of the additional amount applied to the promotional balance. Instead, the amount was applied to the larger balance which is at a promotional 6 % rate, allowing for equal payments over an agreed amount of monthly payments. On Monday, - - we contacted the company with the support of a Wells Fargo personal banker to find out why the payments were not being applied toward the promotional balance. The credit card company 's agent stated that " the law '' required their company to pay off the larger balance with any amount paid over the minimum amount. She also said that there was no way for us to pay off the promotional balance unless 1 ) we paid the full balance on the card in the next 4 months or 2 ) we waited until the final two months of the promotional term and then any additional amount over the minimum due would apply toward the promotional balance.
