Citibank Prepaid card department,
General purpose card Fraud or scam California
I was gifted with a prepaid debit mastercard from - around 1 year ago. I did not use the complete funds before the expiration date, and when I requested a new card be submitted I was told the card was expired ( -/-/- ) and the remaining $77.00 was forfeited. I told them exactly what the Consumer Financial Bureau says on it 's website : " If you have a prepaid debit card and the card expires while you still have money on it, you can request a replacement card to access the funds. The funds on a gift card will be good for at least five years, even if the physical card expires at an earlier time. If your card expires and there are unspent funds on it that have not expired, the issuer may give you a replacement card or give you the money by another means, such as a check. Either way, they may not charge you a fee. '' The agent I was speaking to, - ( Agent ID - ) responded that this was not a gift card, but an " incentive card '' and therefor did not fall
When I asked where my $77.00 went, either back to -, or if Citibank Mastercard absorbed the money they would not tell me but instead said that was a private matter between - and -. I believe this is a fraudulent withholding of my money, and that they are going against the spirit of the law. Thank you for looking over my complaint!
