Amex Credit card department,
On -/-/2015 I was in - at a sales presentation in a neighborhood my wife and I did not feel safe. The salespeople were pressuring us heavily and we were uncomfortable and trying to find a way out of there safely. I decided to call American Express to see if we could cancel or dispute the charges if we signed the agreement and was assured this would be no problem. I was told just to contact American Express if we changed our mind. In fact American Express even approved a charge in excess of our limit. Needless to say we signed paperwork and got out of there as quick as we could. I called American Express when we got back to the hotel and explained our situation again. I was told it would be no problem and to follow up with a formal dispute when we returned to the United States. Wow what bad advice as if they would have told me how their dispute team works, I would have risked going back to the merchant and provided written notice of a cancellation request.
charges under duress, they didnt care if the American Express representatives mislead us. I was told they are just a middle man and if the merchant demands payment we are out of luck. I have disputed this charge multiple times with no resolution. Finally after a year I disputed the charges as fraud as I have never even received access to the timeshare in question. To my further disbelief, the merchant responded that there are no refunds and that 's the paperwork I signed and American Express accepted that answer even though no services have been offered or provided. So not only did American Express not honor their promise to protect me when I called immediately before and after the purchase. Now a year later they refuse to help me when I have never been delivered the services purchased. Their stance is they cant do anything. - they earned foreign transaction charges and interest on and they ca n't do anything. The only reason I signed the agreement in the first place was I was assured I could reverse the charges and felt it was my safest way out of a dangerous situation!
