I have an American Express Blue Cash credit card. And this credit card has an introductory rate of 0.00 % for balance transfers, and a 13.49 % interest rate on purchases. The online portal for this credit card does n't tell me what my exact balance is for each category. And the problem is that the card agreement makes it seem really convoluted how your monthly payment is distributed between the different categories. You might think your payment is paying off your highest interest category first, but it turns out it does n't pay it down all the way, and this gives American Express the ability to keep charging you interest on purchases. Last month ( -/-/2016 ), I got sick of this shell game. It had been going on for something like 2 months by that point : I thought I 'd be paying down my higher-interest purchase balance, but my payments were n't being applied to where they should have been,


off an additional $500.00 extra just in case, and did n't make any new purchases. This, the customer service reassured me, should have paid down my purchase balance completely to $0.00, leaving only the balance transfer which is n't accruing interest at this time. Yet today, when I checked my Amex statement, I STILL am being charged interest for a purchase balance of something like $27.00 in spite of the fact that I HAVE N'T USED THE CARD TO BUY ANYTHING FOR SI- WEEKS!! So basically, Amex is violating its own cardmember agreement, by illegally shunting my credit card payments into lower-interest balances, thus not paying down the higher interest balances, and thus allowing them to continue to charge me interest on when they should n't be. They might also be charging me interest on purchases I 've never made.
