JPMorgan Chase & Co. Credit card department,
Forbearance / Workout plans Iowa
My husband, - was seriously injured in an accident on - -, 2016. He is still recuperating from the resulting - and other injuries and has been unable to work. We do not have the funds to make full payments on our accounts at this time. We are currently working with - - - -, a non-profit agency in our home town. - is not charging us any fees. All our other creditors have been willing to work with them and we are making payments to keep those accounts current. Chase has refused to work with the -, saying they ( the - ) are a " Debt Settlement Company '', even though we 've been trying to set up something with them ( Chase ) since shortly after the accident. Even when I called directly to try to negotiate, Chase refused to speak to me, and instead referred me to - of their Credit Counseling Referral Lines. Although the initial recording said I would hear a list of agencies serving our area code, my call was immediately transferred to someone who identified herself as " - '' at " - - - -. '' - stated that she was
where - - would make our payments for us and charge us a $50.00 setup fee and up to $55.00 per month fees on top of what we owe to our creditors. Why would they refer us to a company that sounds exactly like the type of service they are warning us against? I do n't understand why Chase would refuse to communicate with the local non-profit agency who are already helping us and instead coerce us to deal with an unknown " debt management service '' that will charge us setup and monthly fees on top of our debts. Chase is in effect creating a monopoly by referring us to - of their in-house credit counseling agencies, which will cost us to use, generating more income for the Chase brand. Additionally, the " negotiated settlement '' payment is actually higher than the minimum payment we 've been billed. Our other creditors have already worked with - to help us set up hardship payment plans. Chase 's refusal to cooperate with us is causing undue stress. Please respond quickly to help us resolve this situation.
