My residential loan was recently sold to Nationstar Mortgage. ( It has been sold many times before and I have never been asked for any additional information. ) I have been receiving letters for the last two months from them requiring me to provide certification from the Social Security Office verifying my TIN. They have confirmed that they have my social security number and WILL NOT provide me with a - unless I give them this documentation. Their letter specifically states my TIN must be verified by the Social Security Office. I went to the Social Security Office today and the woman I who helped me stated she CAN NOT verify a Tax Identification Number, only a SS #. She said that the IRS has to do this ; again, I do n't have a specific TIN. I have told them repeatedly that I do n't have a TIN. I spoke with -, one of their managers today and told him I wanted to make sure I did not misquote him. I asked him if he was telling me they will not be providing me with my - as required by the IRS even though they have my social security number on file and he said that was absolutely correct. I am concerned that this is a scam and I do not understand this requirement, especially since I do n't have a TIN. My loan has been sold many times and I have never experienced anything like this. I have spoken with several experienced mortgage brokers who have referred me to your organization.
