Amex Credit card department,
Credit line increase/decrease Virginia
I received an email notification from American Express credit line determination department, stating that there had been a change to my credit limit. When I opened the email the information stated AME- had decided to lower my credit limit by $3000.00, from approximately $9000.00 to $6000.00, thus placing the card which already had a $6000.00 balance on it into a maxed-out credit card position. They advised me to call if I had questions, no explanation was given in that email. I called and spoke to the - different individuals, a regular representative, a credit line representative and their supervisor. I was told by all - that they made the determination based off of - late payments. To my knowledge all under 30-day lates. I should mention, I am a retired - veteran, and I am a full-time student, which caused my 10-day late payments as I 'm on an extremely tight income. Notwithstanding, I paid my bill in - and I paid - 's bill on the -. To my knowledge, I was only 10-days late on those payments, not -, - or 90-day late payments. The AME- representatives told me that the reason for their actions were because they
these drastic of actions neither in writing or by phone. Also, to my knowledge, I was n't afforded any of the protections under the Truth in Lending Act, specifically Credit Card Act of -, where companies are required to notify the customer in writing if they are going to impact the customer 's credit, pull credit scores without the consumer 's expressed permission, change the terms of the agreement, which ultimately adversely impacts the consumer. All of these apply to my situation. An AME- representative told me that the only way my credit line could be reinstitute, thus pulling me out of a maxed-out credit card position would be to give them my bank account information, my -, all other sources of income and all savings and government pensions I may be receiving. Specifically, Proof of Income, Proof of Financial Assets, all sources of employment, OR, give them $3500.00 by - - to have my credit line and thus credit restored.
