In trying to activate a new citibank mastercard, I was told that my account was put on hold because the telephone number I cited did not match their records. I was put in a position where I was neither able to activate the account nor cancel the account because security access ( which I was being denied ) is required for both. I know that I gave my correct phone number when enrolling because citibank gave me a call soon after I applied in order to verify the validity of the application. The number they have on file for my account is pulled from public record and is incorrect. The customer service representative said that I would have gotten a voicemail with a code to gain access to the account, but seeing as the number that citibank has is incorrect, there would be no way for me to receive that message. This is frustrating and inconvenient to say the least,
