TransUnion Intermediate Holdings, Inc. Credit reporting department,
Incorrect information on credit report Information is not mine Nebraska
I am attempting to obtain a mortgage loan, and noted in my credit report an item from - ( - ), a debt collection agency in -, WA. Because I was unfamiliar with this item, I contacted -, and was informed that the account listed on my credit report ( - ) was not my account, and instead belongs to a - ( a name which is very similar to my own ). Because time is of the essence, I requested that - provide the credit bureau documentation stating that I do not owe this debt, so that the item could be cleared from my credit report. I was told that they were unwilling to provide such documentation because the mistake was made by the credit bureau, and not -. I then contacted TransUnion, I was told that the mistake was made by -, and that my only recourse was to dispute the items and wait for - to respond, which could take up to 30 days, or to request a letter from - documenting the error. When I informed TransUnion of - 's refusal to provide such documentation, they stated repeatedly there was nothing they could do, because " it 's not our error. '' Frankly, it is infuriating for two companies to each be playing the blame game, pointing the finger at the other, and leaving the consumer mired in red tape and caught in the cross-fire. Further, waiting 30 days could delay closing on my mortgage and jeopardize my ability to complete the purchase of a home. Both Trans Union and - should be accountable for fixing mistakes. Particularly because Trans Union earns revenue from credit reporting, it 's completely inappropriate that they should directly benefit from reporting erroneous information, and claim that they have no responsibility in correcting mistakes beyond filing a dispute. They should have processes in place to expedite claims, or otherwise assist consumers who report incorrect information. The current system is akin to being held hostage by a credit reporting agency who is in cahoots with a crooked collection agency.
