Citibank Credit card department,
Last spring I made several purchases at the Home Depot store in - -, -, to make repairs to my winter home. I paid cash for several of these purchases, and used my - credit card for others. Because a - % -off discount was being offered as an incentive to open a Home Depot credit account, I applied and used the card to purchase replacement windows for my home. Soon thereafter, I returned to my home in -. A change of address notification was filed with the U. S. Postal Service. -/-/-, I applied for a mortgage loan and was appalled to discover that the Home Depot Consumer Credit Card had been reported to all - credit bureaus as being delinquent. I immediately called Home Depot, and was able to reach a - - -. - - identified herself as a customer service supervisor.
would have paid it. - - stated that it is Home Depot 's policy to send - statements. After that, the account is considered delinquent, reported to the credit bureaus, and is subject to monthly interest and late fees. According to - -, no further attempts to contact the customer are made. However, because this was clearly an error in the forwarding of mail, - - waived all late fees and interest charges. She also stated that she would be notifying the credit reporting bureaus that this " delinquency '' was the result of the failure of the postal system. On - -, 2016, a letter was sent to me from Home Depot Credit Services stating that they are unable to change the information reported to the credit reporting agencies because it accurately reflects my account history. I am filing this complaint for - reasons. First, because I believe Home Depot Credit Services ' policy of ceasing to attempt to contact customers while continuing to impose interest charges and late fees is unethical. Second, because Home Depot Credit Services - even at the supervisor level - failed to provide accurate information to both their customer ( me ) and the credit reporting agencies.
