Credit reporting company's investigation Problem with statement of dispute Maryland

I am filing a dispute with Equifax regarding an item on my credit report. However, the reason for this complaint is not the dispute itself, but the Equifax dispute process. My complaint is that Equifax clearly has my credit history and address history. However, when I try to file an online dispute, Equifax asks to 'verify my identity ' by giving me choices among credit transactions which are clearly not mine. As a result, I am told that 'The information you provided does not match our records so we are unable to process your request online. Please FA- your dispute and a copy of your driver 's license to -. ' I maintain that this is merely a scam to make it more difficult to file a dispute. I gave Equifax my social security number and date of birth. Correct information ( with one item subject to dispute ) is clearly available on the Equifax web site. They gave me choices which clearly do not apply. When I answered 'None of the above ' to all of the questions, I was forced to go to additional trouble to register my dispute.
